Bob DeWeese - KY State
Rep - 48th District
|
Rep. Bob DeWeese, retired General
Surgeon, began his service to the General Assembly being
elected to begin serving the House of Representatives of
the Kentucky State Legislature as of January, 1993.
Now in his seventh term of service to the citizens of the
48th District, Rep. DeWeese, has earned seniority and the
respect of his fellow legislators. He continues to devote
himself to improving the efficiency and the quality of
state services for Kentuckians. He is Vice Chair of the
important and powerful Appropriations and Revenue
Committee; Vice Chair of the Health and Welfare
Committee, which oversees most adult and children's
services and the state Medicaid program; and serves as
Vice Chair of the Economic Development and Tourism
Committee; and is a member of the House Subcommittee for
Energy. His past committee work includes membership of
the Local Government; Cities; Seniors, Veterans, Military
Affairs & Public Protection; and Energy Committees.
Bob assumed an important Leadership position in 2001 when
members of the House Minority Caucus elected him as their
Chairman. He is presently serving his third two-year term
as Caucus Chairman.
Rep. DeWeese plays a pivotal role in setting policy and
leading the forty-four member Republican Caucus and
serving as a member of the Legislative Research
Commission Board, which is the committee of leadership
members of both the House and Senate that oversees the
organization and legislative workings of the Kentucky
General Assembly.
On the local scene, Dr. Bob as he is affectionately known
to many, is an active member of the Downtown Rotary Club
of Louisville; Past President and Member of the Jefferson
County Medical Society, the Kentucky Medical Association
and the Louisville Surgical Society. His efforts are well
known in support of highway improvements, children's
programs, the Arts, education, the University, the city
infrastructure, safety, and continued economic
development.
Sharing his expertise and staying current on Federal
Issues, Rep. DeWeese serves by appointment of the Speaker
of the House as a member of the Environment and Natural
Resources Committee of the National Conference of State
Legislatures and is an alternate member for the Southern
Legislative Conference Human Services and Public Safety
Committee.
An Alumnus of both the Big Blue and Cardinal Red
Universities, Bob earned his BS from the University of
Kentucky in 1957; graduated from the University of
Louisville School of Medicine in 1961; University of
Louisville Surgical Training, 1966; Surgical Board, 1967;
Clinical Professor, University of Louisville.
