Congressman Brett Guthrie represents Kentucky's Second
Congressional District in the U.S. House of
Representatives. The Second District is home to Fort
Knox, Mammoth Cave National Park, Abraham Lincoln’s
birthplace, and many of the Commonwealth’s most treasured
locations.
Congressman Guthrie serves on two committees for the
111th Congress, the Transportation and Infrastructure
Committee and the Education and Labor Committee.
Congressman Guthrie sits on three Transportation and
Infrastructure subcommittees: Aviation; Railroads,
Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials; and Economic
Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management.
He also sits on three Education and Labor subcommittees:
Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; Healthy Families
and Communities; and Higher Education, Lifelong Learning,
and Competitiveness.
Recognized for his proven leadership and commitment
to education, Congressman Guthrie was named the top
Republican on the Higher Education, Lifelong Learning,
and Competitiveness Subcommittee. He also holds a
leadership role within the Republican Conference as an
Assistant Whip.
Congressman Guthrie attended the U.S. Military Academy at
West Point, NY, graduating in 1987 with a degree in
economics. Upon graduation, he served as a Field
Artillery Officer in the 101st Airborne Division - Air
Assault at Fort Campbell. Guthrie later earned a Master's
Degree from Yale University in Public and Private
Management.
Following his military service, Congressman Guthrie
joined Trace Die Cast, the Bowling Green, KY based
manufacturing business that was started by his father.
The company began with only five employees and has grown
to employ more than 500 workers.
First elected to public office in 1998, Guthrie
represented the 32nd District in the Kentucky Senate. In
Frankfort, he was a leader in education issues, receiving
the African American Equity Coalition's “Children's
Champion” award and the College Board's “State Education
Leader of the Year.”
Married to the former Beth Clemmons, they have three
children, Caroline, Robby, and Elizabeth.
