Jon Ackerson was elected to serve the 18th District of
the Louisville Metro Council in 2008. Prior to being
elected to the Metro Council, Jon Ackerson served the
people of the Commonwealth as a member of the Kentucky
General Assembly (9 years as a State Senator and 12 years
as a State Representative), Member of the Jeffersontown
City Council (4 years). Jon has served in such leadership
positions as vice-Chair of the Louisville/Jefferson
County Legislative Delegation, as well as serving on
Judiciary, Education, Banking and Labor Committees of the
Kentucky General Assembly. Jon represents eight suburban
cities and numerous neighborhoods that are located within
the 18th Metro Council District.
Jon received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the
University of Louisville and his Doctor of Jurisprudence
from the University of Indiana. Jon has practiced law in
the State of Kentucky for the past 36 years with
extensive experience in Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning,
Elder law as well as business and real estate practice,
court disputes and family law. Jon is the former Chairman
of the Legislative Committee of the Louisville Bar
Association and has served on the Louisville Bar
Association Ethics Committee. Jon has also served as
legal council to the Jefferson County Clerk, legal
advisor to the Kentucky Board of Tax Appeals and Board of
Directors of the Kentucky Employees Mutual Insurance
Company.
Jon has been an advocate for the Boy Scouts of America's
Lincoln Heritage Council, Norton Hospital Foundation and
the Prodigal Ministries (prison release program) and is
active in various service programs at Southeast Christian
Church.
Councilman Ackerson is married to Kay Ackerson. He has
two sons, Marc Ackerson, an architect in New York City
and Attorney Brent Ackerson, who is also serving as Metro
Councilman, 26th District. Councilman Ackerson also has
three step-children, and a total of 10 grandchildren.
