FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jim Stansbury November 19, 2015 LOUISVILLE, KY—The
Jefferson County Republican Party Reorganization
WHO: All voters who were registered to vote in the 2016 Presidential election last November (as members of the Republican Party) are entitled to participate in our Party’s Reorganization process, provided, that they did not publically support an opponent of a Republican nominee during the 2016 and 2015 General elections.
WHAT/WHEN/WHERE: The Jefferson County Republican Party is reorganizing. That means that every position within the Party, from precinct captain to County Chairman, is up for election. Here’s how this four-step process works:
- On March 4, 2017, between 9 AM and 3 PM at the Jefferson County Republican Party Headquarters, Republican voters in each Legislative District (that is, your State Representative District) assemble. The first order of business is the precinct convention. A precinct is your neighborhood, essentially. Every Republican voter is entitled to come and vote in this process. Each precinct is called upon, and the Republican voters present and assembled elect a Precinct Captain, Co-Captain, and Youth Captain. These crucial local officers are the backbone of our Party and work at the most local level to assure that we get as many Republican votes as possible each and every election.
- Once each precinct has finished, the Precinct Captains, Co-captains, and Youth Captains, from each Precinct within the Legislative District form the Legislative District Caucus. The Legislative District Caucus has three tasks: i) elect a Legislative District Chairman (who will serve on the County Executive Committee for four (4) years), Vice Chair, Secretary & Youth Chair; ii) elect one (1) person to serve on each of four (4) County Convention Committees: Credentials, Rules, Permanent Organization, and Nominations; and iii) elect a slate of Delegates and Alternate Delegates to the County Convention, which is slated to occur on March 25th this year. The Legislative District Chairman elected at this meeting serves on the JCRP Executive Committee for four (4) years, with dues of $75 per year.
- Next, on March 25th, the County Convention will convene. There is a registration fee for this one—it’s $10. The County Convention will elect Twenty (20) At-Large Members of the County Executive Committee in accordance with our Bylaws. These At-Large members serve on the JCRP Executive Committee for four (4) years as well, with dues of $200 per year. NOTE: In order to be considered for election as an At-Large member, you must fill out an At-Large application and return it to Republican Headquarters by March 1st. You can find this application on our website at: www.louisvillegop.com/reorganize
- Finally, on March 25th, the newly constituted JCRP Executive Committee, consisting of the newly elected At-Large members and Legislative District Chairmen, will elect a Nominating Committee, who will review applications and interview candidates for the JCRP County leadership—Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Youth Chair. The Nominating Committee recommends a slate to the Executive Committee on April 11th, who will then elect someone to serve in each of those offices for a four (4) year term.
WHY: The JCRP Executive Committee is the governing body of the Republican Party within Jefferson County and is responsible for recruiting candidates, raising money, maintaining a Headquarters and staff, and overseeing day-to-day operations of the Republican Party in Louisville. We hope you will come out and participate.
